WHAT IS A LAND USE PLAN?

A Land Use Plan (LUP) is used to promote desirable social and environmental outcomes as well as a more efficient use of resources, setting a strategic direction for economic, environmental, social and cultural objectives.
It can often include land tenure-ship and zoning, along with environmental and cultural conservation and protection. Identification of traditional harvesting, future housing, and economic development areas can also be included.
Land Use Plans can also prevent land use conflicts and reduce exposure to pollutants.
